I've been 'tagged' in the weblog version of chain mail where I'm supposed to say seven random things about myself and then ask seven people to do the same. Like Liza (who tagged me), I'm also usually the death of chains of mail, but since she jumped off a bridge, I guess I will too.
1. I learned about astrology from my mother as a child and have forgotten most of it except that my element is air. It sticks with me because I very often come back to the qualities of air when I am trying to understand or explain what it's like to be me. Hmm.. I think I'll write a poem about that.
2. I've been walking in the woods/park almost every weekday morning since March or so. Here are some of the many gifts I've received on these walks: a great horned owl feather, a red tailed hawk flying right over my head, 'reciting the verses of God' to the deer family most mornings as they sit silently and still, staring at me, wild black raspberries, watching the baby geese grow from bobbing puff balls to awkward adolescents, really appreciating spring as I see the gray sticks in the woods turn into lush, green paradise, sharing my gifts in hushed or jubilant tones with fellow walkers and with my Bakery. That's seven inside the seven.
3. I really don't like it when my socks get wet.
4. It's been about a year since I last nursed a baby and over two since I gave birth and my body still feels like it's adjusting to it's new status.
5. I bought the 'Idiot's Guide to Cleaning' today. That about sums up where I am with the whole keeping of the house issue. Trying to learn the zen and the science of it, trying to be humble, struggling.
6. Related to 5, I really hate vacuuming. I wish the whole house were hard wood floors because my favorite cleaning job is sweeping. To me, when the floor is shining clean, the whole house looks clean.
7. I can never have too many plants. I feel a little obsessed with my garden this year, mostly because I know how much I don't know and so I have to keep being vigilant in case I miss something important.
Well, that was painless. I could go on and on about myself. Hmm...
So now I'm supposed to say, 'tag, you're it!' to seven people. When you read your name, you are tagged: Billy, Khalil, Layli, Mama, Lucy (both!), Michael (yes, you), Danny (yes, you too). If you don't have a weblog to post to, just post in my comments below.

So, I just post them here? OK, here goes.
1. This is the second best part of my life. The first best was the having-young-children aspect of earlier years. The third best was the part of my childhood where I was free to roam the woods alone. The fourth best has been all the music over all the years.
2. All of my prayers have been answered. I'm especially grateful for some of the ones that were answered "No!"
3. Interviewing people has almost eclipsed recording music in a studio as a favorite activity.
4. I no longer enjoy large gatherings of people. It used to be life and breath to me. One-on-one (or one-on-two-or-three) is my faves. (Excluding family gatherings of all shapes and sizes.)
5. When I grow up, I want to be a painter.
6. My children are three of the finest people I've ever known.
7. I miss skinny-dipping.
Posted by: Nana at June 15, 2007 12:35 AM1. I wish I could fly. Sometimes I have dreams about flying and it's just the best feeling ever!
2. Rollerblading, cross-country skiing, dancing, swimming and (I recently found out) canoeing are pretty good substitutes for not actually having wings. There's also amusement park rides and parasailing. Looking forward to trying: kayaking.
3. Being outdoors/in nature is being close to God for me. I would like to live outside and long to go camping. I just don't care for the whole planning part.
4. If I were a flower, I would be an orchid. Orchids need very particular, specific care to thrive. We won't just blossom anywhere, you know.
5. Speaking of where one would blossom, I would like to live in: Tahiti.
6. I respond to: sincerity.
7. In life, I like learning about people and why we are the way we are. I get this: We are all one.
Posted by: Layli at June 15, 2007 10:58 AMThanks Lay! Hmm..I smell a camping trip in our future. Living outdoors in Tahiti sounds amazing.
Posted by: Bahiyyih at June 16, 2007 02:38 PMOk, it's my first time posting, so here goes...
1. Last month I started a compost bin in our backyard, inspired by my parents (who always compost), my best friend (who manages to compost in New York City, of all places) and Al Gore's documentary. There's nothing more satisfying to me and I think I'm becoming a compost nerd.
2. I love making things, even though I get easily distracted from my projects or like trying all different kinds of things. Lately this includes cooking, knitting, weaving and making jam or pickles.
3. I love the ocean, but I prefer the forest. Walking alone among the trees, I feel like I am surrounded by the wisest creatures on earth.
4. The best moment to share with a friend: conversation and a cup of coffee.
5. Living in Chile is a good antidote for my overly-organized, control-freak nature. Everything here says "slow down" "take it easy" "do it tomorrow" or "stay another hour". I believe it makes me a more balanced person.
6. Regardless of where I am, travelling is always an important and reviving experience. Anything that makes me see my life from the outside reminds me of the freedom we have to create the lives that we want to live.
7. Honesty inspires me.
Posted by: Lucy at June 25, 2007 05:04 PMHey, Lucy! Great to read your post. Looks like forests run in the family , or some kind of outdoor-ness. Love all around, Susan
