gingerbread?

Georgia really wants to make a gingerbread house. We've been looking at pictures of them on the web and they all look so yummy and fun. So hopefully we'll try and make one in the next week or two. Does anyone want to make it with us some weekday afternoon? I've never done such a thing, so we may get some kind of kit and cheat with the whole gingerbread baking part of it. I think the real attraction is being in close proximity to all that icing and candy but I don't know- I really LOVED building little models and dioramas when I was little. Those are some of my fondest memories from childhood.

Graham crackers tend to work well if you're interested in creating your own custom-designed, free-form "gingerbread" houses. Just put 'em together with frosting and decorate as usual!

Growing up, every year, for our annual humongous Ayyam-i-ha party, my mom and sister and I would make a nine-sided Gingerbread House of Worship. I'm pretty sure the pattern was from an old Brilliant Start magazine. No matter how often we did it, it was a blast every time!

If you do eventually make your own gingerbread, try making stained glass windows. You just cut out a whole in the cookie before you bake it, fill the whole with crushed pieces of colored hard candy and let it melt while the cookie bakes. They're beautiful and delicious! '

Heather's idea with the graham crackers also works really well. I remember doing that in school a couple times. We even used little school-lunch milk cartons to build on top of. This kept the frustration level low since we didn't have to make our gingerbread house stand on its own.
