Billy's off to SF

that's San Francisco, for a business conference about Java. He'll be gone all week and we miss him very much over here. But we're rallying- having played all afternoon at Taste of Champaign and had a nice relaxing evening at home, cleaning up after all the cooking and preparing we've done lately for Baha'i events this week. Now I'm looking forward to the week ahead. I think it will be an adventure.

I made it to SF! I'm at the conference, surrounded by 15,000 other programmers. It's really giving me a sense of the scale of the software industry and its impact on the world and role in our evolving global society.

San Francisco is great too. There were two other big events coinciding -- a big Apple developers' conference and Gay Pride Weekend. Or is it week? I dunno, but it's very colorful here. Had shrimp and mussels last night out on the wharf, hanging out with a British programmer from Denver who studied, on his own initiative, Japanese language from age 9 through a Master's degree. He just says he was interested in it, from studying Judo and wanting to know what all those words meant. So he got a teach yourself Japanese book.

And I've been learning about new developments in Java too.

I'll try to put up some pictures.

Ive been mulling over having a new baby in the family and I think its a really great idea. Enjoyed the time at your house and was really glad to be there when the news was spread. I feel like an "in"person. The girls are beautiful and fun to watch. It enchants me to see the difference in all the kids.

Love,
Grandma Patty
